The chain is composed of pearls with Aquamarine and sterling silver links, providing an elegant and contrasting combination of materials. The front of the pendant features the image of the Goddess Urania, who is the muse of astronomy, holding a globe and a stylus. The words above her, written in Latin, translate to "Not in vain do we watch the setting and rising of the stars,". This image is from the solid gold medal presented to Maria Mitchell in 1848, for her discovery of Mitchell’s Comet in 1847.
The back of the pendant showcases a depiction from an ancient Chinese star atlas, which served as an inspiration for Wang Zhenyi.
